27.9.32.
Legislative Council on 20th October 1930 expressed his appreciation of the undesirability of burdening shipping in Hong Kong. The need to keep taxation on British shipping in Chinese waters as low as possible is even
more urgent now than it was in 1930.
We earnestly hope that such representations may
be made by you to the Hong Kong Government as will lead
to sympathetic reconsideration of the submissions made
by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
We enclose copies of the correspondence exchanged
between the Government and the Chamber of Commerce and
herein referred to, viz.
Chamber of Commerce letters dated 8th June
and 11th August 1932.
Colonial Secretary's letter dated 15th July,
1932.
We have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servants,
John Swiretsone bes
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.1.
